The industrial sector is the highest energy consuming sector in the country and contributes to almost 58% of the total final consumption. The sector relies heavily upon the consumption of unsustainable fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas for its energy needs, which leads to greenhouse gas emissions causing global warming. This poses serious climate threats and crises for the most vulnerable people and societies of the country.
To combat climate change, India signed the Paris Agreement and pledged to reduce the emission intensity of its GDP by 33% to 35% by 2030 from 2005 levels. The industry plays a considerable role in tackling climate change and requires the adoption of sustainable and low carbon strategies while maintaining competitiveness.
The industrial energy efficiency team at AEEE aims to lead the sustainable energy transition in Industries through strategies like improved energy efficiency, low carbon alternative fuels, technological innovation, demand reduction, and energy management best practices. The focus is to complement these strategies with adequate policies & regulations, energy and carbon disclosure mechanisms, access to financing, tax reforms and incentives, regional collaborations, demonstration projects, and commercial deployment of early-stage technologies.
