India was the global host for the World Environment Day (WED) for year 2018 in partnership with UNEP. With the theme, ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, WED -2018 focused on ‘Plastic Pollution’, which is one of the most challenging environmental concerns today.
To celebrate WED 2018, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), organized workshops and exhibition from 2 – 5 June at back lawns of Vigyan Bhawan.
In this regard, MoEFCC invited AEEE to showcase its work and demonstrate the benefits of energy efficiency in the larger context of protecting the environment and its strong potential in supporting India’s commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals and international climate change agreements.
To this end, AEEE exhibited its work and interacted with experts and the public. AEEE’s exhibit emphasized flagship government initiatives and showcased some of the key projects in the form of posters and films focusing on the themes of: (1) green transportation and e-mobility; the potential benefits in terms of managing fuel consumption and carbon emission, and regulating air quality were highlighted; and (2) the future of cooling in India; positioning cooling as a national priority, how it affects every citizen in India and how it can contribute to mitigate different types of pollution.
Many government officials, private sector leaders and civil society organizations visited AEEE stall.
The exhibition culminated on 5th June by a visit by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, followed by his address at the Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhavan.
