Upendra Bhatt


    Upendra Bhatt leads cKinetics, a Sustainability Insight, Innovation and Capital Advisory Firm. Upendra is a “Go-to-market” and techno-commercial specialist in the energy and energy-water domains. He has been closely associated with developing utility scale infrastructure as also decentralized renewable energy projects and has worked on shaping innovative market driven models in the energy access segments in India and South-east Asian markets.

    Outside of his commitments at cKinetics, Upendra chairs the Alliance for Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) as also the Sustainable Business Leadership Forum, an Industry practitioners group focused on resource sustainability and ESG issues. He is a member of several task forces constituted by industry bodies. He is a frequent speaker at global industry events and adviser to several multi-lateral agencies.

    In the past, Upendra has been an early stage investor and co-founder of a development consultancy firm and has also been instrumental in establishing and ramping up the international operations for an Indo-US telecom services firm through its acquisition of a NASDAQ listed firm. He has also held project management roles at Fortune 500 companies, Itochu corporation and Skanska AB.

    He holds a Masters in International Relations from Thunderbird – The American Graduate School of International Management, a Master of Business Administration from NMIMS-Mumbai, (India) and an engineering degree from Delhi College of Engineering (India).

He is winner of several prestigious awards like CII-ITC Sustainability Award, Golden Peacock award for Energy Efficiency & Sustainability, Frost & Sullivan Best practices award for Emerging Energy Management Solutions Provider, etc.

      Venkat was also awarded as India’s most influential Sustainability leaders of India in 2018 by world CSR & Sustainability organization

      Venkat is passionate about Social impact initiatives like Skill development, Rural Electrification, Education, etc., currently the board member of Schneider Electric India Foundation (SEIF), committed towards social-economic inclusion of communities by providing universal access to electricity combining Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Skill Development.

Having worked with start-ups, Venkat is very excited about the potential of the tech start-ups & spends his free time supporting & mentoring them.         Prabal Bose


        With over two decades of experience in management, Prabal Bose is presently working with Siemens Bangladesh as its Managing Director and Country CEO. He has been associated with the Siemens family for the last 14 years and has served at multiple roles. His expertise lies in areas of integrated building management systems, power generation, transmission, distribution, industry automation, and healthcare. Prior to working with Siemens, he has been associated with other renowned brands including Tata Honeywell and Eureka Forbes. He holds an MBA in marketing and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.

          Arjun Premchand Gupta


          Arjun P. Gupta is on a mission to eliminate India’s need for fossil fuels. He started Smart Joules in 2014 to drive energy efficiency improvements across India’s businesses and factories, since efficiency is the most scalable way to tackle climate and economic injustice. Smart Joules makes continuous energy management systems leveraging the latest IoT and cloud technologies, and offers guaranteed reductions in energy consumption under a unique Pay-As-You-Save business model. Under Arjun’s leadership, Smart Joules has grown to a team of twenty-seven young engineers and has eliminated energy waste equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 3,000 households. It has won national and international recognition including first prize in the 2016 National Energy Conservation Awards from the Ministry of Power, two National Awards for Excellence in Energy Management from CII, and numerous other prizes and media mentions. Arjun is also on the Executive Council of AEEE.

          Arjun was recognized in 2014 as the Economic Times Young Leader by India’s top CEOs, in 2015 as an Echoing Green Climate Fellow, in 2016 as Young Entrepreneur of the Year by Business Standard and as a Climate Strategies Accelerator Fellow by Packard Foundation, and in 2017 as a Young Disrupter by UNYCC. In recognition of his innovative zeal, he was recently invited to a special interaction with the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.

          Arjun got his Master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and graduated from the University of California – Berkeley with Bachelor’s degrees in Civil & Environmental Engineering and Economics.

            Darshi Dhaliwal


            Darshi Dhaliwal, is presently the CTO of TORO WATT Canada. He has over 35 Years as an inventor. He developed, tested and promoted Low Energy and Water efficient system for Thermal comfort in occupied spaces.During his 10-year with tenure with TORO WATT , Darshi oversaw development of Dual Path Technology, that can save 30 to 50% energy in building cooling. He has filed 3 patents 2 in India and one in USA ,on dual path technology and condensate recycling.

            Before this role, Darshi was Managing director of Climate control Services Ltd. In India, where he directed the complete design and development and promotion of Indirect Direct Evaporative Cooling systems besides managing the day to day operations. He retired from Climate Control around year 2000 and went back to Canada to be with his family.Darshi is an electrical engineering drop out. He was the founder president of ISHRAE Deccan Chapter and was conferred the title of President Emeritus ISHRAE in year 2000 for his effoerts

            In his spare time he enjoys reading about indoor farming of Medical Marijuana and leafy vegetables.

              Saurabh Kumar


              Mr. Saurabh Kumar is Executive Vice Chairman at Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL),which is under the administrative control of Ministry of Power, Government of India. Under Mr. Kumar’s leadership, EESLhas implemented the globally-lauded UnnatJyoti by Affordable LEDsfor All (UJALA)programme and Street Light National Programme (SLNP). Mr. Kumar and his team has also been successfully implementing several Demand Side Measures including agriculture, public buildings, and transformative initiatives like e-mobility, smart meters, trigeneration and decentralised solar power plants. He is an internationally recognised authority on the design and implementation of scalable, replicable and impactful business models for promoting energy efficiency across sectors.

              An Indian Revenue Service officer of 1992 batch, Mr Kumar worked in various capacities in the Income Tax Department, the Ministry of Power, and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE)prior to leading EESL.

              Between 1992 and 2002, Mr. Kumar worked as Deputy Commissioner in various sensitive intelligence assignments. In the year 1996-97, he was appointed as first officer of the tax department in India to levy tax on national political parties. He also worked in the enforcement wing of the Revenue Department and conducted search and seizure operations against tax evaders.

              In 2002, Mr Kumar joined the Union Ministry of Power, Government of India as Deputy-Secretary in charge of the Budget and Finance wing, and was tasked with evaluating large power projects for government investments.

              Between 2007 and 2010, Mr Kumar was appointed Secretary of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE),the nodal central body for promoting energy efficiency in India as well asthe core agency for implementing the National Mission on Enhanced Energy Efficiency under the Ministry of Power. At BEE,he was instrumental in implementing one of the world’s largest CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) projects on efficient lighting.

              Following his tenure with BEE,Mr Saurabh Kumar led several bilateral projects on energy efficiency with Japan, Germany & France during a 2-year deputation to Bangkok with United Nations Environment Programme.

              Mr Kumar has a Bachelor’s in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Indian Institute ofTechnologyKanpur, and a Master’s in Public Policy from the National Graduate Institute of Policy Studies, Japan.



                Unnikrishnan AR is currently serving as Managing Director at SAINT-GOBAIN Group. An engineer by qualification, he obtained his Post Graduate degree in Management from the prestigious Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI-Jamshedpur) with focus on Marketing and Finance.

                At Grindwell Norton, a SAINT-GOBAIN Group Company, Unnikrishnan, served in the Abrasives division for 5 years and was instrumental in spearheading the sales division.

                In 1997, he worked closely with the SAINT-GOBAIN Group to develop a strategic blueprint for SAINT-GOBAIN’s investment in India in the Glass business. He played a pivotal role in providing Saint-Gobain Glass a quality, technical, and market leadership position in India.

                With rich experience of over 20years in the Glass Industry, Unnikrishnan now is the Director for Sales and Marketing for the Glass Business of Saint-Gobain.

                Mr. Unnikrishnan is also the Director of New Businesses across Americas, Africa, and the Asia Pacific markets of Saint-Gobain.

                Apart from his professional role at Saint-Gobain, He has been the Chair representing various forums in the areas of Sustainability and Regulations drafting key policy structure frameworks for the India Construction Industry.

                  Ranganath Krishna


                  Ranganath N Krishna is the ‘Grundfos Water Ambassador’ at the Grundfos Pumps India. Prior to this, he was the Managing Director of Grundfos Pumps India Pvt. Ltd. since its inception in 1998.

                  A Mechanical Engineer, from the College of Engineering, Guindy with Management from XLRI Jamshedpur, he has 37 years of experience in Marketing, Sales, Design, Project Management, Finance, HR and General Management.

                  He is experienced in the manufacture of Boilers, Burners, Incinerators, Pollution Control and Energy Recovery equipment. He has also been involved in setting up small captive power plants and high-tension transmission lines in the Middle East.

                  For the last twenty years, his focus in Grundfos has not only been on setting up the company and its production facilities but also to build the brand and propagate the concept of life cycle costs, energy efficiency, and water conservation.

                  In the past, he was the President of the Madras Management Association (MMA), Chairman of the TamilNadu Council of CII. Presently, he is a member of the AEEE Executive Council. He is currently the co-chair of the CII National Committee on water and the Southern Regional Chair for the committee on Rural Job Creation and Backward District Development.

                  He is also on the Board of Indian Terrain Fashions Ltd., Celebrity Fashions, LnT Valves, and the Advisory Board of ‘The Banyan’ – an NGO. He is the Executive Council Member of MCCI (The Madras Chamber of Commerce & Industry)

                    Chirag Baijal


                    Chirag Baijal is the Managing Director of Commercial HVAC, India Region. In this role at United Technologies Corporation, Chirag is responsible for promoting Air conditioning business with brands like Carrier, Toshiba Air conditioning for India region including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh & Nepal.

                    Chirag was the Director for Channel Business managing Light Commercial & VRF Businesses across sales & aftermarket & Commercial Sales Businesses Director prior to the current role. He carries over 19 years of diverse experience in the Refrigeration, Tools & Automotive Equipment, Financial Services & Building industries. He has worked with Carrier for over 14 years and has worked in leadership roles over a period of time.

                    Chirag is a thought leader in the field of Sustainability & Business Development and is actively involved with CII – Indian Green Building Council in promoting Green Building Movement in India. He is currently the member of the IGBC Executive Board in India. Chirag is so involved in creation of regulations in the field of energy efficiency with RAMA & BEE.

                    A Management graduate with majors in Finance & Marketing, Chirag is also a graduate in Economics.

                      Prof. Rajan Rawal


                      Rajan Rawal is the Executive Director of “Centre for Advanced Studies in Building Science and Energy” (CARBSE) at CEPT University. He has been recently honoured with Fellow status by the American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Prof. Rawal is the first Indian architect to receive such honour by 125-year-old ASHRAE.

                      Prof Rawal leads Indo-US Joint Clean Energy R & D Centre – Building Energy Efficiency Sector, Indo-UK project on Energy Demand Reduction. He is also the member of the International Energy Agency task 69 on low energy buildings and senior expert at Global Building Performance Network. Prof. Rawal is a member of various technical committees of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, National Building Code, IGBC, and GRIHA.

                      Earlier, he has served as Member, Board of Studies and Board of Management at various educational institutes. He serves at the International Building performance simulation Association (IBPSA) as Chair Education at IBPSA Executive committee. He has a number of research papers, book chapters, and projects to his credit. In the past, he served as Post Graduate coordinator at CEPT University and Head of Undergrad program at Faculty of Design.

                      At the university, he teaches students about energy-efficient built habitat, energy modeling, energy policy at the postgraduate level. His work emphasis is on the ‘energy performance of human habitat’ and ‘architectural science education’.

                        Sanjiv Aggarwal

                        Sanjiv Aggarwal joined Actis in 2008 and is responsible for Actis’ energy business in Asia. He led Actis’ investments in GVK Energy, Ostro Energy, and Sprng Energy.

                        Before joining Actis, Sanjiv was at Citigroup from 2000 to 2007, where he worked extensively in the Indian infrastructure sector, culminating as Head of Power, Energy, Chemicals, Mining and Transportation for India. Prior to Citigroup, Sanjiv worked at ANZ Investment Bank from 1991 to 2000, where he headed the project finance team for urban infrastructure, metals, mining and oil and gas and was also head of eastern India.

                        Sanjiv currently serves as a Board member of Sprng Energy.

                        Sanjiv holds a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian School of Mines and an MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur, India.

                          Satish Kumar, Ph.D. and LEED Fellow


                          Dr. Satish Kumar serves as the President and Executive Director of the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE). Apart from the super exciting journey of developing AEEE into a policy think tank and a credible industry platform through a combination of strategic planning and leadership, deep research and analysis and organisation building, I am most proud of my following contributions:

                          a) Development of the India Cooling Action Plan
                          b) Development of State Energy Efficiency Index
                          c) Leading Energy Management business at a Fortune 200 company
                          d) Launch and implement India’s Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC)
                          e) Coordinating with world’s leading M&V professionals to develop IPMVP
                          f) Advocating a data-driven energy efficiency policy culture
                          g) Planting the seeds for a robust building science stream evolving into the Solar Decathlon Initiative at the Indian universities.

                          Prior to AEEE, he was the Energy Efficiency Ambassador and led the Energy Management business at the Schneider Electric India, a Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the Chief of Party for a USAID-supported bilateral energy efficiency technical assistance program (ECO-III) between US and India Government and has been a Co-founder of Efficiency Valuation Organisation (developer or IMPVP) and the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy. He combines formal education (Ph.D. from CMU and B. Arch from IIT Roorkee), international recognition (member on the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel’s Energy Efficiency Task Force under the Montreal Protocol), executive leadership courses at AEEE and Schneider Electric (Harvard Business School and University of North Carolina) with industry certifications (LEED Fellow from USGBC, Certified Energy Manager and Certified Measurement and Verification Professional from Association of Energy Engineers) and an ASHRAE member to be a lifelong learner and doer.

                            Pramod Deo

                            Dr. Pramod Deo is working as an Independent Advisor in the power sector after he demitted office as Chairman, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) on 8 June 2013.

                            Deo has had more than 11years’ experience as an electricity regulator both at central and state levels in India.

                            He is an energy policy specialist with over 35 years of experience in the sector. At the international level, Deo worked with the UNEP Risoe Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development (URC)* for 5 years.

                            Deo is the founding Director of state and national level energy institutions, namely the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (1986-88) and the Energy Management Center (1989-93) – now upgraded as Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).

                            Deo is a recipient of the World Wind Energy Award 2005 from the World Wind Energy Association for his outstanding achievement in the dissemination of wind energy.

                              Shalini Sarin

                              Shalini Sarin’s experience ranges from, global Chief People Officer to head of global Foundation to Business Leader for the base of the pyramid solar lighting business for social impact. Profit with Purpose & Passion is her mantra and belief. She has worked across India, Europe, and the US in regional and global roles. She is now serving as an Executive Director with a startup in EV charging, Elektromobilitat along with a few other boards where she serves as an Independent Director. She is an executive coach and a strategic advisor on HR, CSR, Sustainability, Transformation, and Leadership.

                              Shalini Saran is an Independent Director on the board of Linde India and Meritor Automotive Axles Ltd. and Kirloskar Oil Engines and serves on several committees including the audit committee, NRC, CSR committees, etc.

                              She serves on the global board of Signify Foundation and ISA- GTFF – International Solar Alliance. Both working in access to energy space. She is also on the executive council of Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE). She is a partner at Social Venture Partners and a mentor and board member for Beyond diversity Foundation.

                              Shalini holds a Doctorate in Organization Behaviour, and a Masters in Sociology and Human Resource Management. She has an Advanced Human Resource from Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, an Executive Coach from Motorola University-Chicago and a Psychometrician from British Psychology Society. She is also certified from INSEAD on International Director’s program and Governance from IOD. She has authored many articles and presented at various Indian and International Conferences.
