Round Table Discussion on “Deployment of Climate Responsive and Low Carbon Building Construction Practices in Uttarakhand”, jointly organized by AEEE and Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR)

AEEE, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) and with support from the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), is organizing a Round Table Discussion on “Deployment of Climate Responsive and Low Carbon Building Construction Practices in Uttarakhand” under the project titled Towards Climate Responsive and Low Carbon Development: Addressing the Critical Urban Issues in Residential and Transport sector in Uttarakhand” granted under National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS) initiated by G.B Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (NIHE).

This round table discussion intends to bring together policy and decision-makers, architects, builders, practitioners, and other relevant stakeholders to deliberate on:

  • Issues in adopting climate-responsive and sustainable built environment construction practices in Uttarakhand
  • Impact of sustainable built environment construction practices in Uttarakhand

Why should you attend?

The vulnerability of the Indian Himalayan Regions (IHR) to climate change has increased in the recent past due to rampant urbanization and industrial growth in the region. Contemporary construction practices, e.g., use of reinforced cast concrete (RCC) and brick cement, have replaced traditional construction practices due to the lack of easy access to skilled labour, and construction materials used in traditional construction practices. This round table discussion will set the context of fostering sustainability in the ongoing construction practices in Uttarakhand, and mainstreaming of energy-efficient appliances for water and space heating. The discussion will also provide an opportunity for all relevant stakeholders to put forth their views on mainstreaming sustainable and climate-responsive construction practices in the region and challenges that prohibit it.

Who should attend?

  • Decision and policymakers
  • Building professionals
  • Architects
  • Urban planner
  • Real-estate developers/Builders
  • Other relevant stakeholders
