The MoU endeavors to push the agenda of mainstreaming energy efficiency and fostering energy transition in the state of UP
Delhi, 05 September: Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE), one of the leading organizations in India creating awareness about energy efficiency as a resource, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (DoEF&CC). This MoU aims to mainstream energy efficiency and foster energy transition in India’s largest state and support several departments including the Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department, Department of MSME & Export Promotion, UPNEDA, Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Urban Development Department. With the signing of the MoU, AEEE reiterates its commitment with the state of Uttar Pradesh to jointly make a blueprint of Energy Efficiency for the rest of India to replicate.
The MoU is in line with UP’s select strategies for Green Energy Mission and Energy Efficiency Mission under UP State Action Plan for Climate Change through evidence-based policy advocacy and knowledge sharing, for a mutually beneficial partnership. Further, the focus of this MoU is to support DoEF&CC and the Government of Uttar Pradesh in advancing the agenda of climate action in the state.
Shri Manoj Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, (DoEF&CC), Government of Uttar Pradesh, said “The signing of MoU between UP government and AEEE has heralded a new era of cooperative engagement in the field of climate change mitigation. We look forward to effective policy evolving and implementation with the cooperation of not only the government sector but also the society at large”.
Shri Ashish Tiwari, Director, Environment, Government of Uttar Pradesh added, “We will provide all support to AEEE to act as a think tank and to engage with the various departments such as industry, buildings, municipal and others to identify activities to reduce climate change impacts through energy efficiency programme implementation”.
Under the MoU, AEEE will work to develop an energy efficiency roadmap for buildings, industrial, and cold chain sectors and help with the implementation of the state energy efficiency action plan.
Commenting on the occasion, Dr Satish Kumar, President & Executive Director, AEEE, said, “We are honoured to be collaborating with the Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (DoEF&CC) for the fast-tracking of the sustainable energy transition, institutional capacity building of state and local officials and supporting Energy Efficiency programs in Uttar Pradesh”. He further said, “To enable an urban transformation, it is imperative for all infrastructure projects to adopt Energy Efficiency and work together to achieve our Net Zero vision. The time is opportune to join hands with the Government of Uttar Pradesh in mainstreaming Energy Efficiency interventions into state development planning and policy implementation”.
AEEE is working closely with and supporting the national level programs and initiatives of various in-line ministries including the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Ministry of Power (MoP), and Department of Science & Technology (DST); central level nodal agencies such as Ozone Cell, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), Town and Country Planning Department, and National Centre for Cold-chain Development (NCCD) and other state-level organizations by the means of knowledge sharing and research carried out in the thematic area of Buildings and Cities, Technologies, Cold-chain with a specific focus on Energy Efficiency.
