AEEE-ISHRAE sign MoU to promote energy efficiency as a resource in India

New Delhi: Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) and Indian Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE) signed an MoU on 7 September 2021, to forged to create awareness and popularise energy efficiency as a resource in India, by collaborating for research and publications and hosting joint events to foster a culture of energy efficiency within the country.

This partnership of three years will focus on the following activities:

  • collaborate to promote energy efficiency in India
  • improve indoor air quality
  • help provide trained resources to and promote interests of the HVAC & related user industries
  • protect the environment

Speaking on the occasion of the signing of this partnership Amitabha Sur, President ISHRAE, said, “Energy efficiency is the call of the day, which is why this partnership can and will go a long way. The industry is on the verge of seeing tremendous growth which will also result in energy demand spikes. Therefore, it is important to work on energy efficiency because we cannot suppress the demand of the market and also, we do not want it to spoil the environment. I hope this collaboration brings a lot of understanding and learnings from each other because our fields and objectives are similar and the cooperation and collaboration between us can bring a lot of value to the respective members of both organisations.”

The two organisations have also formed liaison committees to draw a roadmap on areas of collaboration and generate impact. Building on the importance of this collaboration, and also on the competence of AEEE in the industry, Nishant Gupta, Vice President- Technical, ISHRAE, added, “I had the opportunity to interact with some of the AEEE employees about 7-8 years back, while attending a seminar. As for evaporative cooling, I see a lot of contribution coming in from AEEE, for instance writing the evaporative cooling guide book. This is a small example, but I am positive that a lot like this and more can be done between ISHRAE and AEEE together.”

Expressing his thoughts on the collaboration, Dr. Satish Kumar, President and Executive Director of AEEE, added, “This partnership is the meeting of the minds for both ISHRAE and AEEE since they work in similar areas. In the last four to five years, cooling and refrigeration has emerged as a major area of interest in general, and work for AEEE as well. I feel that in this Decade of Climate Action, I see a lot of potential in terms of ensuring thermal comfort for all, and reaching net-zero through trainings, awareness generation, and capacity building, which I look forward to working towards together.”

The collaborative efforts of this partnership will potentially go into ramping up efforts and initiatives in areas of cooling and refrigeration, and space cooling. More focused attention may also be paid to cold chain and its needed infrastructure in the country to push India forward on the path of sustainability and net zero.

AEEE promotes thermal comfort for all, and a Lean-Mean-Green philosophy to design and construct net-zero energy-water-waste built environments, sustainable transportation and robust energy data framework for better policy-making and implementation. We are committed to achieving India’s energy transition for a climate-resilient and energy secure future and meet India’s commitments to the 2030 nationally determined goals (NDC) and UN sustainable development goals (SDG).

About ISHRAE

ISHRAE is the premier Indian society in the HVAC&R field with approximately 25,000 members pan India, dedicated to advancing the arts & sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration to serve humanity and to promote energy efficiency and sustainable building development in India. ISHRAE serves its members through 44 Chapters across the country. Its education and training branch, the ISHRAE Institute of Excellence (IIE) conducts courses and trainings to groom professionals for a career in the HVAC&R field.

ISHRAE works closely with all stakeholders connected with the built environment & building services industry.

This partnership is the meeting of the minds for both ISHRAE and AEEE since they work in similar areas.
