AEEE Biennial Conclave, ‘Energise 2020’ begins in Hyderabad

February 11, 2020, Hyderabad: India’s energy demand is expected to double by 2030, and to achieve India’s development ambitions, energy efficiency plays a pivotal role. At, Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy, we always perceive energy efficiency as a resource and first fuel. To fulfil this commitment, AEEE is hosting its biennial conclave energise 2020: Energy Innovation for a sustainable economy at ‘The Park’ in Hyderabad starting today February 11 to February 13, 2020.

What is important in addition to bringing together all key stakeholders energise2020 is an idea and philosophy being pursued by Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy to create a robust eco-system of energy efficiency professionals that is grounded in sound research and analysis which will benefit both policy makers and business leaders alike.

The Day-1 of the three-day conclave started with with the lighting of the lamp ceremony by Upendra Bhatt, Managing Director – cKinetics and Chairperson, Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy, Jarnail Singh, Deputy Director (India), MacArthur Foundation, Sanjay Bajpai, Head – Technology Missions Division (Energy, Water & all Other), Department of Science & Technology, and Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the presence of Dr. Satish Kumar, President & executive director AEEE. It was followed by keynote address by all the dignitaries.

In his special address, Mr. Anil Kumar Jain, IAS, & Secretary Ministry of Coal, Government of India, focussed on how energy efficiency today is well adopted in India’s energy strategy and how it is also important as renewable energy in India’s sustainable energy transition. He further reiterated the importance of transparency in public disclosure.

The highlight of the conclave was the plenary session that emphasized on ‘Role of Energy Efficiency in Energy Transition Roadmaps’, moderated by the secretary Ministry of Coal, Mr. Anil Kumar Jain. The national and global energy experts on the panel included luminary speakers like Dr. Arunabha Ghosh, Founder & CEO, CEEW, Mr. Steve Nadel, Executive Director, ACEEE, Chinmaya Acharya, interim CEO, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, Ms. Jennifer Layke, Global Director, Energy Program World Resource Institute, and Dr. Ashok Sarkar, Senior Energy Specialist & Team Leader, Energy Efficiency Projects, World Bank.

The panellists deliberated on topics ranging from key drivers of energy efficiency in a time of economic crisis, strategies for a zero-carbon economy, pillars of energy efficiency, EV as an instrumental force in energy transition, past successes and lessons learnt and best practises from India, UK, United States and beyond boundaries.

The session highlights:

  • To keep Energy Efficiency at the center of the energy discourse in an era requiring urgent climate action – competitiveness and growth of enterprises, jobs and inclusion and data and digital platform to make energy visible.
  • Derisking energy efficiency investments and creating enabling policy framework to ensure that India becomes an even bigger player in Energy Efficiency.
  • The Government of India should continue to prioritise R&D for transformative research as an enabler to lead energy access for the future.
  • Role of India in the philanthropic landscape being both an emitter and a major contributor of the global emission.

Day 1 also saw four reports launches:

  • Design Guide for Practitioners for design of Low Energy Residencesby CEPT University
  • Switching gears: Enabling Access to Sustainable Urban Mobilityby SE4ALL
  • India Power Outlook Series- Volume 1by Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation & Vasudha Foundation
  • Increasing Energy Access by Using Super-Efficient Appliances in Rural Homes and Productive Businesses: India Stakeholders Mapping Report by AEEE

The second half of the day was dedicated for paper presentations on topics ranging from Buildings & Communities, to Energy Efficiency & Business Competitiveness as well as Urban Infrastructure & Utilities.
