This study was carried out with support from the Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF) to put forward the case for accelerating the adoption of high efficiency energy efficient (EE) appliances, through market transformation. First, it positioned the criticality of EE being the first step in sustainable energy, which would help meet the twin objectives of sustainable growth and addressing climate change. Then, it analysed the impact of EE appliances in reducing the demand-supply gap and CO2 emissions. The study also presented an analysis of programmes to promote renewable energy appliances, to see which of these could be applied to accelerate the demand for higher-rated EE appliances. Finally, it presented the case for government supported schemes to lead a market transformation in higher rated EE appliances.
