Guidelines for Climate-Responsive and Low-Carbon Building Design in the Cold Climate of Uttarakhand
About the guidelines report
The guidelines report for Climate-Responsive and Low Carbon development of Uttarakhand region has been prepared based on the outcome-based research specially conducted in the Uttarakhand region.
This report intends to provide a roadmap/ guideline for climate-responsive and low-carbon building construction practices in Uttarakhand, which can be extended to other Indian Himalayan Regions (IHR) states for the improved thermal performance of the building envelope and energy efficiency in building operations to support India’s climate change commitment and other national priorities
The guidelines report focuses on reviewing the international best practices and policies conducive to climate-responsive and low-carbon building construction practices and national policies and interventions needed to promote climate-responsive residential sector development in Uttarakhand. Further, the report describes the insights gained from the survey analysis covering building typologies, construction materials, thermal performance, means energy consumption and its pattern, and socio-economic conditions. Furthermore, the guidelines report identifies the key interventions for building envelopes using whole building energy simulations. The last sections of the report cover the operation phase of residential buildings, e.g., the water and space heating energy appliances, integration of solar PV with buildings, and utilisation of solar energy.
The practical and implementable recommendations envisaged in this guidelines report would help buildings minimizing their energy consumption and maintaining thermal comfort. If integrated with the building bye-laws
